We are wired as human beings to seek relationships for bonding, nurturing, and validation. Without relationships, we don’t feel whole.
Yet relationships are hard. And that is why loners exist. They find that being in relationships with others are so difficult that it makes any reward not worth the trouble.
But they don’t really escape from a relationship. Even if you were to escape from society and hole yourself up in a cave, you still have to have a relationship with yourself.
That being said, relationships bring out some of our biggest challenges. Whether it’s yourself, your partner (or potential one), family members, people we work with, bosses, or employees, everything boils down to the ability to conduct and maintain relationships.
